What a great idea for a book. We've been looking for some resources to help with our 9 year old son who has Asperger's Syndrome. I really think this book would be great for his class in school.

Joanna, Thank you for this Video, about Chelsie. I have Asperger Syndrome, mild autism. I am also a folk musician/singer/songwriter and activist for affordable healthcare (in USA); now branching to autism awareness too.
Besides afflicted by an ASD I see a vivid example of failure of our healthcare (in USA). Often insurance companies won't cover therapies needed by autistic child.
AFFORDABLE HEALTHCARE IS A RIGHT! Autistic & neurotyp.
The Autistic Child has a right to needed therapies.

I have friends who are autistic, so this is really handy to know that they aren't doing anything on purpose, they just can't help it.

I think people really need to learn more about autism, I have an Autistic sister and find it extremely annoying that people think she's just stupid.
Autistic people are really smart if you pay attention.
Thank you for writing this book
Megstar12345, thanks for the comment. And, have fun with your friends!!

for 4-H I want to write a book that can be interactive for children with autism. I want to use it to make reading fun and to help others understand autism...Any suggestions?

Hi sorry for delay. I was having technical problems with YouTube. For many of those on the autism spectrum, sensory issues (sound, touch, taste, etc) can be experienced hyper/hypo (too much or too little) so perhaps having your book have some touch feel things in it would be helpful. Like soft fabric, scratchy sand paper, slippery rubber, feathers or whatever to add a sensory aspect to the book. Also, kids on the spectrum sometimes do better after having activity so perhaps adding activities...

(continued)...adding activities to every few pages might help the child feel more relaxed or get rid of some of the "heeby jeebies". Good luck on your 4-H project. Please let me know if I can be of further help. You can send me a direct message.
