  • is that an electric blue jack dempsey or are u just usin a blue light?

  • none of them. a normal jack dempsey under white light.

  • wow. i got me a baby one right now and he looks nothing like that. check'em out on my vids. so when does mine start lookin like that?

  • It depends on how fast he grows but my guess is a couple of months. Our JD was ~3 years old in this video.

  • mine's scales are showing green and blue now on the face and body, but overall he's still olive green with stripes. can't wait til mine looks like yours. does it matter what u feed it?

  • I don't think so.

  • hey do u think i cld put 2 full grown jack dempsey's in a 90 gallon tank pls reply

  • @ChunkUuP8 well for one, your tank is too small to have just one oscar or just one jack dempsey by themself. Most cichlids, especially JDs and Oscars, are very territorial. The only way to keep them together is in a HUGE tank(150 gallons or more), and with tons of natural boundaries for their territories such as driftwood and rocks. I suggest getting rid of both if you still have them, and buying some smaller fish for a community tank.

  • i'm not sure if they will bite, but having your hands in the water might stress them out

  • You might be able to if it gets use to your hands being in the tank. Otherwise I would think it would just swim away. I have my hands in the tank all the time and my fish just swim around it like it's not even there.

  • i dont think u will be able to pet any fish unles u corner it

  • hey can anybody tell me if jack dempseys bite if we pet them? i have small ones but what about when they're adults?

  • Cichlids need hiding places I like cracked flower pots and stacks of rocks. Also if you add a few fish at a time your jack will be less likely to pick on any one of them. Don't get any fish that are going to outgrow your tank though. I would get something like a salvini, convict, or maybe a green terror. The bigger the better but only medium sized cichlids. No midus or jags in a 55 gal.

  • ANY BODY I NEED HELP WITH MY NEW TANK!

i have a 55 gal i jus bought. there is a 7inch oscar and a 3inch jack dempsey. my JD is very terriotorial and wont let any other cichlids in help 4 what i can do?

  • wow!. I had the same experience and I had to give my Oscar away. It was so interesting because my Jack was smaller than the Oscar.
