  • I always assumed Davey stole his Christmas tree from a Kmart downunder and her lawn chair was under the bridge looking up at the beautiful Southern Cross (a constellation only visible in the Southern Hemisphere).

  • @jillmandic

If the lyrics refer to the Cow Key Bridge in the Florida Keys, seeing the southern cross makes sense, as you can see it at the horizon that far north. I have seen it off south Florida. Any farther north and it is not visible.

  • @darlincommitme

ahhh - that makes sense - thanks

  • Whatever Christmas and Christmas cheer is about, Davey got it right. Dear boy. I always think of homeless and marginalised people at this time of year. The 'Southern Cross" in this always confuses me though.

  • Tak til Madsen for intro af Mary !

And tanks to Mary, it is a very great song - I like you tekst.

  • Fantastic stuff again from the nicely downbeat Mary G. Merry Christmas missus.

  • Great tune...great songwriter...sad story.

  • @darlincommitme

At last I can understand it. Thanks Darlin.

  • I really love the character of Davy, he seems so open and vulnerable.

  • *I've just listened again (it's so good), and at about 4:10, as Mary sings about Christmas songs on the radio, Tania plays a couple of bars of Jingle Bells on the fiddle. Like small gifts for the audience. Just brilliant, and I love the rose colour tint too.
