  • @quicksurfinternet ,thanks,so can i rip the disc with the blu-ray menu intact or just the movie itself? & which kind of file format would it need to be in?im still a little confused about what a container is,i know alot of 1080p are .mkv but i heard that mkv is not a codec or a video file format, but a container,so what file format/s would one need for bluray quality 1080p video&menu,& what do i do with the files?package them in a mkv or other container file?&wouldnt that require another program?

  • @bulletproof2353 typically, if you rip the disk, you get just the movie. You can rip the whole disk and mount it directly with player software that supports that, but by and large, you get just the movie if you want to convert it into another format. It sounds like you're confused about codecs and container formats. I'll make another reply and try to fit it in.

  • @bulletproof2353 video files like an .mp4 file or .avi or .mkv files contain several elements: one or more video streams, one or more audio streams, and/or one or more meta data streams. These video and audio streams are encoded with a codec like h.264 and AAC, or xvid and MP3. In order for these streams to be stored in an easy to read way for a video player, they are stored in a file container, like .mp4, .avi, or .mkv files.

  • @bulletproof2353 the basic process of ripping a disk is get it ripped to your hard drive, then use a utility like handbrake to convert it into something a little more manageable.

  • oops, typo, i meant if you cant break the encryption like decss does on dvds and you cant practically use the dhcp master key to get a line out 1080p signal to record into a 1080p rip then where did all the blu-ray rips on the torrent sites come from?how were they created?and im sure its not that impractical im sure a jailbrake ps3 could use it somehow,i thought i read something about rebug being able to do it or alsmot being able ot do it,of course its the new version that was just released

  • @bulletproof2353 the discs are ripped and converted. Slysoft AnyDVD will bypass the disc encryption for you and let you rip the disc and do whatever you want with the contents of the disc.

  • did they actually find the encryption key for all blubay discs ,like what decss is to dvd's

the blu-ray disc equivalent ,to the decss decoder for dvd, respectively?

and how do/would you use it? can you use it with any software? or would the software need to designed around it it or for it:,i dont even know how to use the dscss key, where would you even put the hex code digits in a ripping program?or would you just need a special program designed with the keys already?

  • @quicksurfinternet thanks but can & will a program like handbrake or anydvd be able to rip the menu intact?& do u know what kind of file/s the menu would be?i assume they would be put into the container with the actual movie file/s,is there options on how you want to rip it?i would imagine if you want a menu & to have scene selection &all that u would need it broken into parts, not 1 large continuous video file right?& would u need a kind of decss equivalent for BR to rip with the menu intact

  • how does hdcp even work? & what actually uses it?does it mean i cant copy a blu-ray disc playing on a blu-ray player to a dvr on record in 1080p?and i thought that there was already a blu-ray equivalent to decss to rip blu-ray discs on a pc anyway,if not & you can break the encryption like decss does and cant line out with hdmi cause of hdcp then where did all the 1080p blu-ray rips on the torrent sites come from?how did they get made if the encryption isnt broken & hdcp is impractical as u say
