Senator Chuck Hagel Senate speech on "Cut and Run"

Senator Chuck Hagel, Republican from Nebraska, speaks on the Senate floor: "Congress fails in its duty when we do not probe, we fail when we do not ask tough questions, and we fail when we do not debate the great issues of our day. There is no issue more important than war. The war in Iraq is the defining issue on which this Congress and this administration will be judged. The American people want to see serious debate about serious issues from serious leaders. They deserve more than a political debate. This debate should transcend cynical attempts to turn public frustration with the war in Iraq into an electoral advantage. It should be taken more seriously than to simply retreat into focus-group tested buzz words and phrases like "cut and run",Â" catchy political slogans that debase the seriousness of war. War is not a partisan issue, Mr. President. It should not be held hostage to political agendas. War should not be drug down into the political muck. America deserves better. Our men and women fighting and dying deserve better. "

freethisone: I knew nothing about Chuck Hagel till I started watching his youtube clips recently and they have somewhat restored my faith in American politics. He could easily be president but unfortunately his integrity and stance on key issues would make him an immedaite threat to the Military Industrial Complex.

as a native nebraskan, it is a shame indeed. the problem is nebraska is an extremely conservative state and with his independent stances he drove a lot of dittoheads away from him, and i dont think he want to get into that type of race against the guy who currently holds his position (a former gwb cabinet appointee)

i know how we can have him as a president, all he has to do is say im running for president, tell America on TV adds and radio to go to you tube and watch these videos, juge for yourself America. he would be elected on that bases alone for honesty, and integrity as a true leader!
