It's listed like that because there's another version of the recording on one of the YHF demo albums with a full band accompaniment. I'd love a full recording of this song with Jay on piano and Jeff on guitar from I Am Trying To Break Your Heart

I agree with your assessment of the Bennett version of this song. It's as if he were trying to throw in every studio trick he could think of, and it didn't serve the song well at all. Just muddied it all up and killed its heart.

It looks really sharp. I've recently gotten a canon HF100 I'd like to use myself, but it would be my first time bringing equipment to a show. Even if the venue is ok with a tripod and other stuff, I'm worried another fan may walk off with the equipment or bump into it or fling their drink at it etc... Any experience with Rode or any other mics handling the higher dB levels at concerts without distortion? It's rare I see good comparisons of mics for that specific use.

I've got a version of this song from the scrapped YHF sessions and it's very very good. Although it's listed as "Rhythm" in the tracklist.

I think it wasn't released as a Wilco song because Jeff and Jay Bennett wrote it late in the YHF process. Jay later released it on an album he did in 04, his version is awful compared to this though.

Oh man, I was at this show, and it was the first time I'd ever heard Cars Can't Escape. It practically left me in tears. Great, great song, and I'm still baffled as to why it was left off YHF, as well as Venus Stop the Train.
were you the one with the iPhone?

Nope, I recorded this on a Panasonic SR5 - and trust me, it looks and sounds a lot better in high def.

sony sr5 or panny sd5? are you using an external mic (and what kind)?

Oops! It was an SD5, and I just relied on the built-in 5.1 mic.
The new SD9 is even better, with room for a bigger battery and an even cleaner sensor. Still, given the choice I'd love to have a crack at Jeff with something like their HS100 and a Rode shotgun mic or something.
