After a large water change and filter cleaning, my South American cichlids enjoy a mysis shrimp dinner. Most of this video is of my Heros sp. "super red" severum being a hog and chasing his tankmates away. Other tankmates include:

Heros cf. efasciatus "Red Spot Tapajos" (wild-caught severums)
Mesonauta festivus "Tapajos" (wild-caught festivums)
Uaru sp. "orange" F1
Cleithracara maronii (tank-raised keyhole cichlids)
Geophagus paranaibe F1
Pterophyllum scalare (wild-caught Peruvian angelfish)
Laetacara dorsigera (wild-caught flag cichlids)

The same festivums and severums can be seen on my channel here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8PhgyfAQMk0 This video shows the fish nearly eight months ago when I had them in quarantine after purchasing.

You can also see the Uaru sp. "orange" as thumbnail-sized fry when I purchased them in April: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=txlhYNXV5WM They are 5 - 6" now.

  • wht fish is that one directly above ur sev. at 1:19?

  • @2tallAndrew That's a Uaru (Uaru amphiacanthoides). That particular fish is the orange variety which is fairly uncommon and have only been in the hobby for a couple years. Most Uaru are brown or gray and lack the deep orange chest that this one has. They are large-growing fish like severums or oscars but very peaceful.

  • wht kinda fish is the black n silver striped one called

  • @jacksonjones402 They are festivums, Mesonauta sp. There are several species of them. I believe these were true festivums, Mesonauta festivus. The males turned pretty aggressive and I had to get rid of them once they reached about 7".

  • Nice tank, what kind of gravel do u use?

  • I use silica sand. You can get it at most pool supply stores. It's a heavy-grain, beige-colored sand.
