It's autumn, leaves are falling, and there is a lot of money to be made raking leaves for your customers. I am going to show you a few quick tips to make your jobs easier.

When you have a big leaf job I have always found the easiest way to do it is to windrow the leaves using a lawn mower or a leaf blower.

Today, I'm not mowing the grass. So, I am going to use my backpack leaf blower.

For a good leaf raking tarp use a thick tarp with metal grommets. Take the rope and weave it into the grommets.

When the rope is through the grommets it is time to rake the leaves onto the tarp.

Now the leaves are windblown into a nice neat pile they can be raked onto the tarp with a regular leaf rake.

If you are doing heavy work like twigs or leaves that are wet from a rain, you can use a landscape rake. Landscape rakes can cost as much as $60. They are made out of aluminum and designed for rocks and mulch but it will do great for heavy, wet leaves.

Since it's dry today I am going to use a regular plastic rake.

Once you have all the leaves onto the tarp you can use the rope to fold up the tarp and help contain the leaves. That way, you can haul them off without them blowing all over the place.

Today, all we have to do is haul the leaves just up to the wood. This will save us a lot of trouble. It will save gas, dump fees, and it is much easier.

Once you are at your dump site it is as easy as releasing two grommets and walking the tarp over to dump all the leaves. Watch how simple this is.

That's all there is to it. It is much easier than bagging leaves. It saves time and money. This tip also gives you better ability to give customers better bids on leaf jobs.

  • Any tips on how much to charge in this economy? I don't charge more than 20 per house no matter what but thats way too low.

  • @tscat68 HAHAHA! Nice one. Made me laugh for a few.

  • i'm amazed at how many lawn care people do things the hard way....just run over the leaves with the mower and they will disappear...make 2 passes if necessary....no bagging, no raking, no loading, and no dumping :)

  • ha ha the last part when hes dumping the leaves he looks like hes illegally dumping them how fast he does it.

  • You are the man i bet you have all the women jumping allover your stuff

  • I just pull the tarp-no need for a rope,by the time that rope goes thru the grommets I can throw the leaves on & start pulling-price! if your not getting 40.00 to 125.00 an hr. pulling something that falls on the ground then you might as well work for ramen noodles-

  • Just mulch the leaves into the lawn. You may have to make 2 passes, but the leaves' nutrients are good for the lawn, and you won't have to rake or bag!

  • Nice. Thanks keith.
