After the death of Rector Josef Schmitt in 1955, Dr. Walter Tautschnig, was elected by the Trust or Foundation of former choirboys, to become the director of the Institute.Dr. Tautschnig, himself, was a choirboy and during his university days, served as prefect and later tutor at the school.

The incredible Dr. Walter Tautschnig carries on the work passed to him.He is himself great, and the right person sent at the right time to do the job.He is diligent, perceptive, untiring, and uncompromising with standards.His work as a builder and an administrator is preparing the way for even greater achievements for his beloved "Sängerknaben".

His business acumen is remarkable, his knowledge precise, and his devotion complete.This makes him a very unusual Pied Piper , but that he is, for by his gifts and stewardship of management and operation he is preparing the way for hundreds of choirboys to be trained in the years ahead, affecting as he goes, the direction of his nation's future.

Two are amusing in that the captions describe the then director Walter Tautschnig welcoming four new choir members; astute "Almost Angels" fans would immediately recognize those four "new kids" as the four lead kid actors from the movie!

i knew tautschnig. 80% of his appearence was just yelling and demanding. the rest of him was greatful, but only in front of an audience.

I had no info at all in my country about the choir since I saw Almost Angels movie in 1964 when I was a kid! You mention about the director welcoming the actors of the movie, but I could not found this scene. Please help me to get it, for I would like to see them again! Thanks once more!

The gentleman at 0:11 is Dr. W.Tautschnig Junior, son of Dr. W.Tautschnig Senior who passed away on Oct 25. Dr. W.Tautschnig Jun. became director of WSK in 1983 after his fathere's retirement. You can find the credits at 8:04.
