It's a bit hard to classify this game; the controls are easy to learn, and the run-down urban setting makes it look like a beat-em-up pulled straight out of the '90's. But the controls are more advanced than most modern brawlers, and the physics and combo systems seem like they were ripped straight from the Tekken series. Combined those aspects with the ability to use the environment as a weapon, the whole package feels like a highly sophisticated arena fighter. And yet even that description doesn't really describe how this game works. It's the type of game you could play a number of different ways, and you could still win a match. With all that stuff going on, it can be a bit overwhelming to some gamers. This is definately not one of your pick-up-and-play games. But it's also a solid game, and an amazing whatever-type-of-game-it-is.

  • I have this game and I have to say, this is one of those games that people need to play instead of those countless Dynasty Warriors games. Not to go against Dynasty Warriors, it's just that they are getting stale with the 3D beat-em-up genre they employed mostly since 2. Now back to Urban Reign, this has to be one of the greatest 3D beat-em-up ever hit the PS2. It's just a breath of fresh air from the stale crap that has been plaguing the next-gen consoles as of now.

  • this game probably would have gotten alot bigger if it weren't for the lack of good advertising(atleast in the US) and the fact that everyone assumed it was a def jam:fight for NY knock off. and you're right a remake with more emphasis put on player vs. player would shake up the entire fighting scene

  • @JETLI2012 LMFAO

  • I... dig this game. However, I'm STILL having some issues. Though the controls are easy to learn, timing is freakin' CRUCIAL against multiple opponents, especially for counters. I'm only through Mission 30, and it's gettin' a bit tough. I've had to restart Missions quite often.

    It's still pretty fun, though.

  • I remember playing this game...it was REALLY tough at times so you felt really accomplished once you beat some of the missions. Also, you got to play as Tony Jaa! Say what you want the guy in the pink shirt doing muy thai is freakin' Tony Jaa...
