.....be able to stop my Silat from protecting myself or others. Last thing I will say is that there are no rules in traditional Pencak Silat. It was designed for survival. There is no Tapping Out like there is in BJJ or MMA. There are styles of Silat that try to minimize the amount of damage done to your enemy but that all depends on the enemies intent.

Wow.... I just read a bunch of the comments below. First things first - although they have recently added a sport side to Pencak Silat it is only for the sake of marketing and building the spirit of competition. Secondly, it is not about which style of martial art you do that will make you more successful in a fight - it is about how dedicated you are to your art and what your intent is. Meaning that if I feel my life or the life of someone I love is on the line, Royce Gracie himself would not..

bagus sekali. Sunda warrior :) i'm orang sunda and my grandparents are silat gurus. i'm not sure what style, though I think it's from around Garut area near bandung, mention something about Gajah putih? I was wondering if you could help me out identifying the style

@BUDINGkicksADRIANNE what is MMA anyway?... just a bunch of fags hug each other and rolling inside a cage with rules... sure not a place for a silat fighter.

real silat has no rules... silat was born from combat, when a silat fighter doing a fight it was for killing or to be killed... not for the children eyes.

@MyLalinea Oh,im not sure wat ur asking but juz 1 2 share wif u some info,the word silat is either from "Kilat"-which means lightning or "silap"-which means "mistake" which generally means (2 find the mistake).Silat has more then 200 kinds.I reccomend u 2 watch (on youtube),(silat bunga)which means 'flower style' and (silat serimau hitam) which means 'black tiger style'.Hope u learn something from there. :A message from SINGAPORE.
