Today is the beginning of a new series, "Serenity Rising" where I look for peaceful and serene places to meditate and bring my soul into harmony with nature whilst living and working in Tokyo.

Today's Serene location is the "Former Iwasaki-tei Gardens", an amazing wester/Japanese mansion built in the Meiji Period (1896). It was the home of the founder of Mitsubishi and is stunning! The mansion (palace?) has 14 fireplaces! FOURTEEN!!! I hope you enjoy this brief respite from the concrete jungle with me.

Special thanks to ImageLegacy for providing a plethora of places that I will take you to as we make our sojourn around tokyo, seeking Serenity.

  • I don't think it''s that great dude, I'm sorry. lol. But if it's something that is famous then that's really awesome you got to be there! :D

  • The house was really very nice. But then again, I love old architecture, E. As for being famous or not... that doesn't really interest me.

  • haha cam's kinda lame....

  • CAM! seems to be cheerful and is glad. It is OHASHI of SASAMATA. Please sometimes e-mail it.

  • Great idea, Wouk!

  • One may just live one's entire life in a tent in that HUGE and stunning garden!

In Sweden we have actually an ancient law (which arose during the middle-ages) called the "Allemans rätten" or "the Everymans right" which enables every individual to wander freely on Swedish territory such as forests, meadows and fields. You may also camp everywhere you like as long as you have the rightful owners permission. - A hiker's paradise in other words! :)

Can't wait to see more of these series, Cam!

  • Oh.... Thanks for sharing.

Hope to see it myself someday.

  • Got dark too soon ;-(

Glad you got to BE there.

  • Wow, that's an awesome house! The setting is just fantastic...
