yo i had the exact same set up back in the 90s except it was for genesis and i was playing japanese games on my american system
-
I didn't realise they had a different version.
-
where do you people get master systems at i can never find one anywhere
-
@ApolloBoy if the japanese games fit into a US/European SMS but won't play because of the bios, if you open the console and find the bios chip, cut one of the legs. not sure whitch one tho, il have to find out
-
ah thought as much :/
i know converter carts exist for the megadrive/genesis, but must admit ive never seen anything similar for SMS.
oh well, theres still another 200 or so european games for me to look out for yet, that should keep me amused for the time being :P

what happens when you try to boot up US/UK Sega Cards in the Japanese Master System?

@DAS64 Both American and European cards will work on both the Japanese SMS and the Mark III, as they don't check for a region header like the American and European systems do.

Is there an off/on switch for the FM sound chip on the Japanese Master System?
DAS64 8 months ago
@DAS64 Nope.

hey man, i collect SMS games over here in the UK, i keep seeing SG-1000 games on ebay, i know only the japanese SMS is backwards compatible, just wondering if you know:
do the SG-1000 card games work on european SMS (i doubt they do) :P
and are there converters like you have there for playing japanese games on european SMS?

No to both unfortunately. The BIOS in both the American and European SMS blocks all Japanese games, and there's no converter that'll play Japanese games (yet).
