  • Thanks so much for posting this. I love the smile at the very end. I froze it and copied it- great photo. I just finished "The Mayor of McDougal Street" fantastic book. Should have read sooner. A truly wonderful entertainer and after reading his book, I found him even more amazing than I had thought. Thanks, again- willy

  • I was fortunate enough to have seen Dave play often enough, that he allowed me to record this performance. I'm sure at this point he must have known about his illness, which makes it even more of a gift from him to me. (other than his fantastic music, and great stories.)

I'm not sure what image you froze, I think it's the one I did also. He's smiling as he's looking down to his left. It's a great image.

Have you read Bob Dylan's Chronicles ? It covers some of the same territory as daves

  • it's giving me so much pleasure to have finally figured out how to edit this stuff into seperate clips to share...

  • yeah 3.40, definatly the best part alrite......

  • All Hail The King.....Dave Van Ronk!

  • @willysunday Funny, I was reading 'The Mayor of McDougal Street' about the same time as you, and have found Dave's views and experience very informative to my own music making. I wish they (Dave Van Ronk and

Elija Wald) would've had the opportunity to write the book they had intended.

  • Wow. I love it.

  • I had the great privilege of studying with Dave for a number of years. A nicer man you could never know. Rest In Peace!

  • he reminds me of my pop.. his cool

  • @hodah THe image I froze was at the very end of the video... 3:40 He kind rocks back & forth and then looks to his right and smiles. I did read "Chronicles" but Dave's accounts are much more entertaining and vivid- at least to me. I never saw him live, but I intend on making up for it with as much video as I can devour. I always had a respect and liking for him. After "The Mayor" it's elevated to reverance and a better understanding of what he did for music and musicians.
