The Edmonton Oilers take on the Winnipeg Jets from the Arena in Winnipeg. This was game #4 of the first round Smythe Semi Final. The Jets held a 2-1 series lead heading into this game. And we wont talk about what happened after this game now will we lol.

The game featured some early scoring from both teams,an injury to Goaltender Bob Essensa in the second period that knocked him out of the game, courtesy of Glen Anderson. The game would eventualy go into the 2nd overtime before a winner would be decided.

The late Don Wittman and John Garrett are calling the game from the booth.

This would also be the last game in which Dale Hawerchuk played in that the Jets would win.

  • It's amazing you can see a person behind those goalie pads. Not the case with today's game; goalies can barely maneuver around in huge equipment.

Ranford/Essensa, man those were the days.

  • The 80's into early the 90's hockey was awesome!! No clutching and grabbing, yet good physical hockey!!!

  • Considering how small of a market Winnipeg is, the Jets have had a very good history.

  • The Jets are back!

  • @western9 lol i wasn't even born till a whole year later....but as an Oilers fan, I wish I was alive to see the Oilers win all those cups, cuz it's a living hell to be an Oil fan right now =(

  • This took place on my 16th birthday. I wasn't there that night, but I still fondly remember watching it.

  • I missed the old goal tending style

  • Essensa could have been a great goalie.

Then this happened and it all went downhill.

    ES-SEN-SA THE SAVE....classic.

  • essensa is my coach now and peter klima is my friends coach

  • Love watching stand-up goalies.Growing up watching the classic guys like Dionne and Sittler,Pereault , it's not the same, yes, but there are still guys today that make the game worth watching,we all know the names. It helps if your team is doing well, sorry Leaf fans, but your interest in hockey can wane if your team always blows.

  • the greatest goal in the history of the franchise in the NHL not the WHA version...
