MSNBC: Matthews takes aim at capitalism

Last week an agitated Chris Matthews tried to hold Dick Cheney accountable for the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, and this week Matthews is demanding action from President Obama, as the Hardball host pushed the President to nationalize the oil industry to solve the problem. On Monday's Hardball a visibly angry Matthews demanded Obama go after BP: "Why doesn't the President go in there, nationalize an industry and get the job done for the people?" and pointed out that in China they would have a much harsher response to BP: "They execute people for this. Major industrial leaders that commit crimes like this."

It was President Bush that opened up the gulf to deep water drilling, and ignored the warnings of the risks of a spill.

And he put in place terms in the mining rights he sold limiting the liability of companies like BP if a fiasco like this happened.

If BP decided to stick to the wording of the mining deal they bought their liability for this disaster would be capped at around $100 million - with the US tax payer picking up the rest.

I think there should be a little box on your tax form where you can choose to give MORE taxes to the Government. How many times have we heard these media and hollywood types talk about how they think that we aren't taxed enough and that Europeans pay more? Put your money where you mouths are Liberals...lead by example, if you trust the government to spend your tax dollars so wisely...give more!

@condobeacon no, he didn't say that. he said that in china, which is a much more brutal society or brutal way of doing things, econ-criminals of this severity would be executed. lots of countries have executed lots of people, for lots of reasons, including americans, recently, for dumb ones, so try not to lead innocent people astray with your little tactics (replacing content). im not defending the socialism stuff or even matthews you just cant change peoples words to fit it's "like" he said...

@condobeacon your point is hard to beat on its own terms, but i do have to say sometimes it is scary how bad things can get in the interest of this great modern world we're so proud of
