I Don't Trust Obama with My Retirement Insurance, Do You?

The President of the United States believes that the fully self-funding Social Security program contributes to the deficit and the debt. He said as much just the other day on NPR. He believes it so much that he wants to prove it to you by selling a you a tax compromise, which will, for the first time since I've been alive anyway, actually cause Social Security to contribute to the deficit. His compromise includes a 2% Social Security tax "holiday" which will be made up from General Fund revenues... You follow that? He is messing with the self-funding mechanism of Social Security, the political and fiscal bedrock of this incredibly successful program, to provide a tax cut which could just as easily come from the General Fund like Bush's famous rebate checks. I don't trust him with my retirement insurance, do you? http://majority.fm

If you find him to be centrist on civil liberties or economics, that's your opinion and I respect that (even if I profoundly disagree).

That being said...

The term Neo-Liberal has nothing to do with a Right / Left paradigm. In order to be considered Neo-Liberal your policies must reflect 1- Free Trade, 2 - Minimal Government, 3- Privatization of Most Government Sevices, and 4 - Minimal Taxation.

Obama meets the criteria. To assert that he is not a Neo-Liberal is false.

In many ways the past two years were much more frustrating, when progressives thought the man was on their side even while nothing was getting done. Now at least they know why. I've seen so many private companies go bankrupt in my life, I'd be hard put to choose any one of them that I'd trust to even be there in the future. And besides, social security is also a disability insurance system.

People need to be aware that there has been no cost of living increase 2 years running, on social security, and on veterans compensation benefits. They claim no inflation, but Canadians ARE getting COLAs, even as their dollar exceeds US dollar. Funny money math.

Cutting gov spending will mean more people out work meaning even lower demand for products and services meaning lower economic activity which means more private sector layoffs which means lower revenues for government.

@JBBlitz The problem is, the Republicans want to steal it from your kids and to give it to the rich even more than the Democrats. They're both into corporate welfare -- the only difference is, the Dems got into power by lying about it to their voters. You have no party left that won't rob you blind to feed the plutocracy.
