This depicts my mother-in-law on her European vacation circa 1995. She brought back many lovely photos, one of which was of her cheerfully feeding the birds in a Roman square. I don't know why that picture made such an impression on me, I just love looking at it.
I had long wanted to make this and had composed it in my head many times over, so this one Christmas we were able to go to her home in Oregon, it seemed the right time to finally get down to doing it. I went to an art store and scrambled for materials (even for a ruler!), did a quick sketch on the way to the house, and what you see is the finished product, which I hope she likes.
Merry Christmas, my dear suegra :)
I really like the way you integrate color into your designs. It's visually pleasing, but also seems to add to the narrative storytelling of the card. So far all my pop-up architecture has been in white, but your work makes me think about trying something different.
