Reasons this car will fail, it's slower then the prius, it doesn't even go as far as the prius and it's made by GM, and they are asking for 40,000 starting price? Are people really going to buy this in the USA?

Remember when the VOLT was supposed to be a 2008 model, then a 2010 model, and now a 2012 - 2014 model? What year will it really come out? And wow - that is a small car - not sure I'd trade in my Accord for a smaller sized vehicle. And still and estimated price tag of $40K to $50K - ouch!... Someone has to come out with something more affordable. (GM) Government Motors can't depend on taxpayer assistance to bring this to the market forever.

I Like this car. I would rather buy this car, then the Nissan Leaf, or the upcoming car by VW. This car is better design then the others. It has more of an upscale look to it, and in my opinon Chevys last longer. Chevy has never failed on me.

SideburnerSol: You're right. The Tesla Model S is a beautiful sedan. If I were in the market for an "environmentally friendly" car, and I had a lot of money to blow, then I'd go with the Model S.
Tesla Motors is an inspiring exciting new American auto company, but GM is a depressing company that gobbles up BILLION of our tax dollars.
Has anyone compared the coefficient drags of the Model S to the Volt. The Volt is ugly, but it might not of been necessary to be that way.

@ TranCendenZ. I'm a skeptic also, hence my comment "The Volt could be too little, too late". But Volt production will be limited to begin with, making the Volt a niche car for the upper middle class/rich. If gas goes to > $5 a gallon these folks may trade in one of their BMWs. More likely they will buy a Tesla S model... now that's a beautiful sedan!

SideburnerSol: The Volt isn't going to succeed. The consumer demographic that is interested in "eco" cars can't afford a $40K+ Vol.t

What I'm saying is it seems to be getting a lot more press than the EV1 since youtube is around and other sites that let people talk about it.

I hope the Volt succeeds and helps GM. Regarding your comment "it won't be forgotten like the EV1"; EV enthusiasts who have been following the deveopment of electric cars for more than 5 years remember the EV1 well. The EV1 received a tremendous amount of press when the award winning documentary, "Who Killed The Electric Car?" came out late in June of 2006. If you are interested in electric cars and haven't seen it, I highly recommend it. It's still a very popular DVD rental.
I agree 100 percent. GM had all of the other car companies beat with the EV1. I think they are to late on this car. The average person that is eco friendly will not be able to even afford it.

A step in the right direction. Too bad they didn't listen to their ev1 customers and develop an ev2 seven years ago. The volt could be too little, too late.
