A Zen monk walks the streets of, presumably, Tokyo as he is oblivious and, yet, completely aware of his contrasting surroundings.

  • I believe that what this monk is practicing is an altered state of awareness. He is simultaniusly observing his surrounding environment, while observing himself observing the surrounding environment. This is one form of meditation while moving. Notice how delibirately he places his feet while controling the center of balance, the precise ringing of the bell, he is chanting from memory, breathing in a certain way etc...

  • GREAT SCENE AND GREAT RELIGION

  • Emptiness is form and form is emptiness - Hagakure

  • His demeanor is his sermon.

  • what gets me is that everyone is oblivious to his presence. :(

  • @trespire He is practicing kinhin--just walking. Zen is simple. Simple is best.

  • @trespire Actually, he's just walking and just chanting.

  • Really cool contrast between the deliberately slow paced monk and the hasteful people around him.

  • @JimmyJones Quite a lot is going on around us all the time as I tried to describe. There are many things going on around us at all times,& also a lot going on inside of us.The point is how much are we even aware of all this, are we "Sleep Walking" like preconditioned automatons, or do we posses and exercise some degree of choice in how we react to lifes' situations. The monk is traing this ability, which Mankind does NOT usually posses. He is in training, like you do sets of curls for biceps. BR.

  • @trespire Eh... so what the fuck is going on?

  • One of the best scenes I ever whatched in my life ! This is more than powerfull...

  • Luv this part of the movie ... a great moment!
