@TheMrBlinx Oh PS, The Dabbawalla system actually started when the British Colonials in India working there didn't like the local food so had their servants make lunches/meals for them more to their liking and often Western in style/taste and had it delivered to them - so you asked 'why?' Well, seems like a bunch of Whites moaned about the food and started the whole thing - ironic how you've moaned about it...eh? Lol.

Billions of people world wide manage to bring their own lunch to work and bring the empty lunch box back home. Why can't India do that? What is the basic need for this overly complicated waste of manpower and resources? Why can't people just carry their own lunch with them (like the rest of the world does)?

It is a myth that dabbawallas are professional. They are a monopoly and like any monopoly, they have become corrupt. Some dabbawallas are rude and abusive to customers, especially when they have to deliver to old-style houses with no elevators. They also often don't deliver food as per their whims. There is no accountability because there is no way to complain.
