We were psyched to try out the Line 6 JM4 Looper after seeing how similar it looked to the highly touted DL4 and FM4 boxes, some of Line 6's finest pieces of work. The JM4 is good at something, but it just doesn't seem like looping is its forte. It does do looping, but it seems like Line 6 was more focused on providing the Spider Jam presets, functionality and controls than they were with making an actual looper.

Still, if you want to see Gearwire's favorite Irishman all frazzled up about a guitar pedal, this might be your only chance. And if you're looking for a great practice tool with some extra features and don't need the whole "amp" part of the Spider Jam -- bingo -- you got a winner.

  • Dear Gearwire,

This is one of the most unprofessional demos I've ever seen. I've watched several of your gear reviews and usually the reviewer is either a bad player, inarticulate, doesn't understand the unit he's demoing or focuses to much on unimportant details like taking the unit out of the box. I don't know what your purpose is or how you make money but you've lost me.

  • Maybe you should learn more about the pedal before you review it..?

  • Practicing an afterthought too?;)

  • dude read the manual before you try and demo something, you look ignorant otherwise

  • damn you play crappy! Seriously, i dont think he is a musician, but a hobo that just got some new clothes from line6 crew, and then he got 5 bucks for doing the review...

  • gOOD lORD. GET A CLUE PEOPLE....

  • my god thats a pile of crap...Line 6 have great pods and great sounds....bin the video camera mate, bin the looper too....ouch!!

  • Ive had the spider jam and the JM4 and they are YES the same brain ,I dont think Line 6 was trying to keep this a secret (DUH) both have their benefits but the JM4 would be the winner for me because of its portability and the fact that it has its own built in footswitches (spider jam requires separate pedal purchase) One thing that I dont like about the spider jam is the LED screen is in a tough place to read because I like to sit on my couch an mess around with stuff

  • and there is no practical way to do that on spider jam (I wished that the screen wouldve had the ability to tilt up and down) but the JM4 offers much easier maneuverability.I think these LOOPERS offer quite alot on-board feature and also make it extremely easy to patch in anything you want out-board

  • and you can save everything on an SD card and can convert it all to WAV files right in the unit and as for ease of use EASY ,just spend some time with it read the very simple manual and go thru the processes and youll find out its really very basic stuff .I dont care what this guy thinks its a LOOPER and an extremely powerful tool for practice and creativity,I DO NOT WORK FOR LINE 6 and I am not a fan of there modelers but the JM4 is outstanding IMHO
