In the 2010 mayoral debate, Rob Ford gives his guarantee that he will make Toronto Paramedics essential. Not only that, he states he will pay them more money.
Now that he is Mayor, he is asked to make paramedics 100% essential (like Police, Fire and yes the TTC -- with binding arbitration in exchange for the right to strike) It seems he and his deputy mayor, Doug Holyday say they wont live up to these promises.
If you are concerned -- call the mayor and ask him why TTC is more essential than Paramedics ?

So no offence to the bus drivers, they have a heck of a job but shouldn't services that protect peoples lives all be up there somehow? You know, maybe a little weensy bit higher? (that was a classic example of that scathing sarcasm Canadians are so famous for)

we cant afford to make them essential... yet we can afford to make the much larger TTC service essential. buses>ambulances. not to mention that the TTC is a chronic (ab)user of ambulance services. without EMS the TTC would barely run. in fact the city would barely run because the subways and streetcars would clog everything up because someone fell down and everyone needs to get off so an ambulance can come pick the person off the ground.
