This is a simple example of a coin sorting machine that can be used to sort pennies into zinc and copper. Copper pennies are currently worth about 2 cents each right now. The left bottle is zinc pennies and the right is copper. The minting of US copper pennies was discontinued in 1982.

The Coin Comparitor model in the video is as follows:

Manufacturer: WEI-YA
Electronic Coin Selector
Model HI-08CS

I purchased it on EBay for $20. I have not seen them offered again.

This is a link to the manufacturer's web page.

The clear plastic ramp from the Pop bottle on the left to the coin comparitor on the right is a corner wall protector I bought at Lowes. I bent it to make it more like the shape of a V, so that the pennies roll down into the opening at the top of the coin comparitor.

The rest is just wood & brackets holding the coin comparitor and the pop bottle.

I recommend the Ryedale Apprentice, which I have purchased.

  • To make this coin sorter: The main component the blue box on the right is called a coin comparitor. You can find this part in Ebay or searching the internet. Don't buy one of these coin comparitors used, as most of them are junk. It's hooked up to an old 12v power supply from an old cell phone charger. The rest is just old water and pop bottles and misc hardware from Lowes. The coin comparitor I bought had all the cables and instructions. I bought it for $20 on EBay.

  • Please send info. on penny sorter

  • it comes with a wiring harness, 12v connect black to negative and red to positive. its real easy. I'm currently uploading a video of mine to my page.

  • I bought a similar model from seller chowhe_taiwan for $10. It works really well once you figure out how to tweak it just right. If anyone needs help send me a p.m. and I'll help. Not as fast as the Ryedale but WAAAAY cheaper and faster than by hand.
