This video shows the work done to a Lee Oskar harmonica (key of C) that helps this harp to overblow and bend overblows without squealing. Please watch my other video to see a demonstration of the overblow/bending technique on this same harmonica.

  • The plates aren't dirty -- it's a common discoloration of the alloy. This is my oldest harp and has been played a LOT, mostly before I knew what I was doing. I've tried a number of things to make the plate look better, but none worked. It doesn't really matter though... as I said, the plate is perfectly clean, just discolored.

  • Hey Jonny, I just wanna say thank you so much for sharing this info. It REALLY helped! I've been playing Lee Oskar for a while largely because it's good price with decent quality and also it's pretty cheap to replace reeds. I can't afford to wear out a harmonica and buy new expensive one every month. It's great to see you experimenting with this brand and dig their potential. Thanks!

  • I avoid wood combed harps, i know there CAN we a bit more warmth to the harp, but will all the saliva that gets inside, the wood will be forever changing shape and altering the sound.

  • have you ever made a comb from wood?? i need some help converting my suzuki pro master mr350 to a nice soft wood to see what sound i get before buying a pure harp? any help as i have cut cunks out of the wood i have think i should use a diff. saw rather than a disc cutter

  • I have a new LO harp, key of A and i hate the thing, i'll have a special 20 anyday.

  • Agreed Hoot ... 4OB is a killer!

  • Thanks for this. The only other vid I've seen on such mods is good ... but I only *think* so because it's in Italian, which, apart from a few foody things, I don't understand!

  • Yes. Keep your C major bottom reed plate on, and remove the top reed plate and replace it with the G Melody Maker top reed plate. You now have the A note in the blow 3 hole and you still have the G note in the draw 2 hole.

  • i'd just make sure and check the gaps on both reeds, blow and draw, this should help you drastically . lemme know if it does. good luck

  • My question is about the elusive A note found by drawing the 3rd hole on a C harmonica.

I know you can get a G blow in the 3, a G# on the draw, chromatically up to the A, next a Bb, and finally the B natural - all by drawing in the 3 whole. But really, that A draw on the 3 hole - it sounds so choked no matter how well I play it; and I can play it. I want to know is there a modification I can do that allows greeter ease, clarity, tone, fullness in that 3 whole draw?

  • Interesting...I can do a great OB on hole 6. 5 is harder....hole four OB is the one that KILLS me. It still needs a lot of work.
