@bzzzzap : Of course they're artsy as hell and do arts for the sake of art too, as all the others.
But still they're members of that stellar 60ies/70ies triumvirate The Kinks, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles.
And there's no best band, no best album, no best song from them because there were so many...

A pity this isn't a true live version from this era. But it's great theatre, and such a brilliant song.

I love the Beatles but I think that as far as lyrics are concerned nobody comes close to Ray Davies.
No offence meant.

@bzzzzap The Beatles had better singers, better musicians, better engineers and put out revolutionary records... I like the Kinks but they never even came close to Sgt Pepper or The White Album... cheers
-
@bzzzzap I agree. If for no other reason than The Kinks move me emotionally in a way that The Beatles don't.

This is so excellent. It's obvious that they are having so much fun. Ray has a lovely bouffant hairdo and Dave is sporting crazy whiskers. Good to see they take their music seriously, but not themselves.

I do like The Kinks more then The Beatles. But in the end all of the British Invasion bands have their own "quirkiness" about them that make them great. Love this era of music!!

I've got this on dvd. It's from the awesome German show BEAT-CLUB. Don't worry though, as there is some amount of english througout the show apart from the singing

i like the old timey saloon style piano sound

they always look sooo happy lol
Bring on the haters, but The Kinks are better than the Beatles. More sincere, less arts for arts sake.

Dazzled by Dave’s incandescent adolescent beauty. How easily he carries off a daft hat and absurd facial hair. Bewitching blend of the sad, sweet melody (and beautiful, pure backing vocals) and the satirical, observational lyrical content.
