If you like looking at a framerate that's smooth as butter, or like me and you have a shitty graphics card, then try running TF2 on DirectX 8.

This video shows that DirectX 8 looks pretty nice while increasing fps on lower spec video cards.

How to get DirectX 8:

  • Look really nice for Dx8. suspiciously good graphics....

  • @997hulk997 probably has to do with the filters in tf2's replay system. now that i think of it, i should have used fraps instead...

  • if i get -dxlevel81 can i put the settings on high even if my graphics card is bad? this is my comp Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU e5200 2.50GHz (RAM) 4.00 GB (Windows Vista) and the graphics card is NVIDIA GeForce 7100 / NVIDIA nForce 630i because i put -dxlevel81 on the set launch options and it lowers a little lag but i cant play on medium or high settings and even on low i still lag can you help me please is my graphics card bad? if not why cant i play on high settings with -dxlevel81?

  • @21Davible24 have you checked your internet connection? i'm pretty sure your computer meets the minimum requirements, and the lag might be coming from high ping and low connection.

  • My one doesnt start, the screen turns sideways and the opening credits come on (Valve,Source) but then it just goes bakk to my desktop... and i have DirectX8 do you have any idea what this is

  • @KiDDoViPeRzz have you checked your pc's specs? crashing on startup might be from running the game on a pc that doesn't meet up to the system requirements.

  • yeah i did the dxlevel 80 thing it worked, ping got smaller too,and fps big as..globe?:D

  • @DarkGamerProject you change it in the launch options. check the link in the description.

  • i cant change it its grey and i use directx9+ graphics.how can i change to 8?i use too high direct x and my fps is really low. ping is pretty good.

  • If anyone wants motion blur with low graphics (dx80 or autoconfigs), just dl an fps config, save it as 'autoexec.cfg', then enter '-dxlevel 90' in launch options. Make sure to enable motion blur first before starting tf2, by simply editing and messing around in the autoconfig.

    :)
