Les Très Riches Heures

Le Très Riches Heures du Duc de Berry sono un codice miniato del 1412 circa - 1416, capolavoro dei Fratelli Limbourg e della pittura francese del Xv secolo in generale. Si tratta di un libro d'ore commissionato dal duca Jean de Berry e conservato oggi nel Musée Condé di Chantilly.

Les Très Riches Heures du duc de Berry sont un livre d'heures que le duc Jean Ier de Berry commanda aux frères Paul, Jean et Herman de Limbourg, qui ne l'achevèrent que bien après sa mort. Le manuscrit est conservé au musée Condé, à Chantilly.
Les Très Riches Heures du duc de Berry sont probablement le manuscrit enluminé le plus important du XVe siècle, « le roi des manuscrits enluminés ».
Il fut peint entre 1412 et 1416 par les frères de Limbourg, qui le laissèrent inachevé à leur mort et à celle du duc en 1416. Jean Colombe acheva les illustrations entre 1485 et 1489 pour Charles Ier de Savoie.
Ce manuscrit contient aussi une illustration remarquable de l'ascension du Christ.
Il fut découvert en 1855 par Henri d'Orléans, duc d'Aumale, dans un pensionnat de jeunes filles près de Genève.

The Très Riches Heures du Duc de Berry or simply the Très Riches Heures (The Very Rich Hours of the Duke of Berry) is a richly decorated Book of Hours (containing prayers to be said by the lay faithful at each of the canonical hours of the day) commissioned by Jean, Duc de Berry around 1410. It is probably the most important illuminated manuscript of the 15th century, "le roi des manuscrits enluminés" ("the king of illuminated manuscripts"). The Très Riches Heures consists of 416 pages, including 131 with large miniatures and many more with border decorations or historiated initials, that are among the high points of International Gothic painting in spite of their small size. There are 300 decorated capital letters. The book was worked on, over a period of nearly a century, in three main campaigns, led by the Limbourg brothers, Barthélemy van Eyck, and Jean Colombe. The book is now Ms. 65 in the Musée Condé, Chantilly, France.

Love the picture at 2.45 where the peasant in the hut has his clothes up over his knees in front of the fire, no underwear!! life must have been very hard.......this is one of the most beautiful books in the world ,I would love to own it....

I must admit I didn't know it, must I knew a lot of the imagesm that show the Medieval age routine.
