The interesting thing in British comedies is that they are not afraid to have serious, sad, moving and poignant moments in what would be seen as a film which is a classified as a comedy - the comedy doesn't need to be in every scene.
The same writer when he came to the end of Blackadder Goes Forth a comedy about the First World War which is hilarious ended with them going over the top and dying moments after some of the funniest lines. It works and is powerful.

@virtualpilot45 the AMerican quick fire TV comedies with laughter track are the most difficult for me to watch as I hate the coercion in the laughter track.
