Matt, I hope your Varela presentation went well. You said Mechanistic Biology is Inadequate. I think you're right. Analyzing life means another order of complexity, and ultimately it means NEW ONTOLOGY. Then science changes along with the new ontology. SCIENCE WILL EVENTUALLY FOLLOW THE TRUTH, but not in our lifetimes!
Looking at IMMORTALITY OR REINCARNATION in the Varela video: Its interesting to look at it from the Whiteheadian point of view:
For Whitehead: 1) NEXUS 2) SOCIETY 3) ENDURING OBJECTS 4) CORPUSCULAR SOCIETIES 5) STRUCTURED SOCIETIES
Question: Some kind of society or nexus where there was a mental route, at least at one point, could that mental route go on indefinitely without the physical or material route? Without the subordinating Corpuscular society? Further, how can a Mental Route make it into a New Corpuscular or Structured Society? Could it? Whitehead didnt talk about this.
