Another forgotten song of the late 60s. This band never got recognized as much as they deserved.
Off of their debut.

  • Nice song....

To think, ABBA went into the Rock Hall before Procol Harum. (I just hope with Genesis in there, Procol Harum would be next)!

  • @Yourmomisnthere R&R hall of fame is nothing but a sham. Refuses to recognise the true talent in most rock acts and instead gives it to the names that will bring in the moolah.

  • @hfield07 Now hold on for a second. I'd say The Beach Boys, Zeppelin, and Queen are more than deserving of a place in the hall of fame. I suppose you could say The Beatles as well based on influence.

  • @RazrHack Oh some of them are very deserving but a lot of the choices make me scratch my head when bands like T. Rex, Moody Blues, Chicago, Donovan, KISS, Rush, Steve Miller, Deep Purple, Yes, Jethro Tull, Iron Maiden, etc. are left in the dust while bands like Chic are finalists.

  • Actually Homburg is the first track on the very first album, and subsequently was released as the second single. Since this first album didn't sell much (I think I was about the only buyer), it was rereleased later with A Whiter Shade Of Pale instead of Homburg.

I still love the album btw.

  • If memory serves none of the original 5 issues of this album from 1967 included Homburg. It was the second single though from the group! The 1972 reissue that included "A Whiter Shade of Pale" was exactly the same ten tracks but with "AWSOP" as the first track for a total of 11.

  • This song is great for so many reasons - Gary Brooker's singing, the keyboard and drum sounds, and not forgetting those surreal lyrics.

  • i Procol Harum ci hanno regalato alcune delle più grandi canzone della storia, come dimenticare questa o "a salty dog"???

  • very bachy...lived my childhood in Palo Alto CA late 60's and all this music is so endearing melancholic and sweet like of a time forever gone

  • Another of my favorite songs by PH. Thank you for posting. How many years have gone by and I remember every note!

  • The problem is PH's fan base was never huge, at least not for long...

During the 2002 tour of the US (never returned) they had a hard time selling out 500 seat venues... They are loved in Britain, Germany, etc...

  • the sham of fame is all for nothing in the spirit world

  • My favorite cut from this album, even more than Whiter Shade of Pale.

  • I heard A Whiter Shade of Pale and Homburg as a kid, and after loving those songs for many years, I picked up a couple of albums a few days ago when they were on sale, and I can't believe I've missed out on this. It's brilliant!

  • Procol Harum represent my youth, the love we made, the friends we had, the music we listened to, the bright future in front of us.

Now, - getting close to sixty, listening to Procol Harum brings all that back.

They will always be in my mind and my ear.

  • keyboards from 3:04 on....thrilling. One of the few songs that well & truly takes you back...and still sounds fine today.
