Cat - Americans are going through a phase of denial. Most people know there is something not quite right about how the economy and the country is heading. But denial sets in - when some media folks come along and say, everything is AOK, they suck in it - believing it indelibly. Perhaps they'll only wake up when the food banks run out of food, and banks tell you to come back next week because they run out of cash, gas hits $6.00, Gov has no more cash for the 99ers, housing drop by another 25%.

I'm starting to think most Americans just aren't going to wake up. They aren't capable or willing. If most of them are going to remain asleep and ignorant, then may they live in cardboard boxes and eat pretzels and chicken broth every night. There are still plenty of good people in America, but too many are completely ignorant about what caused this mess, and more ignorant regarding what is needed to end the mess.

During my many trips to China I've explained to them that when I was a kid, it was common to hear adults telling their children, "eat all the food on your plate people in China only get to eat a bowl of rice once a day." If the US doesn't change it's course, it's very likely Chinese adults will be telling children to eat all the food on their plate, for Americans are starving.

@yaplonglong Continued- Cat, the 200 + videos you produced go to illustrate how bad the problem is. When you look at an empty mall, it's scores of millions wasted, unrecoverable. Looking at a st. to nowhere - again it's scores of millions lost. We simply couldn't figure out how many empty malls & home are out there. To make it worse the banks are dismantling them (quietly) hoping it might pop up the market. WHAT STUPIDITY! WHAT WASTE of resources! - You are right - Americans will never wake up.

@EconCat88 - The thing I find odd is even the so-called professionals who speculate in Wall St or the commodity mkts don't have a clue either. How many of us remember the US has between 500 trillion to 1 Quad-trillion worth of derivatives to address. As we know - they haven't yet, so far they just put some band-aids to patch up the gaping holes as big as the Hoover Dam and say everything is AOK. Do some maths - based on 5T - even if they write off 5 trillion a year, it will take them 100 years.

The majority of Americans are still whistling along as if everything is ok. This economy still has MUCH FURTHER to collapse before it has any sustained recovery. A lot of good people are going to suffer. People better start learning how to make ends meet with one income, for that's all many of them are going to have after the economy suffers it's next leg down. All the govt did in 08-09 is paper over problems that are now only more severe. Pay the piper.
