show the males were the slaves their color is imaterial to this fact . look up some of the earley colonys of usa made up of white slaves ie indentured serfs.

They do, which is revealed in episode 13. It's a race which feeds on the Medusans. The Medusans are pacifists (unlike Octavia's behaviour towards men) and they have no means or thoughts of defense against this menace. But the Earth attitude teaches something to them.
