Iran tests Domestically-Designed S-200 Air Defense System with same capabilities as Russian S-300

Iran successfully test-fires S-200


Iran has successfully test-fired new generation of S-200 defence missile system on the final day of the five-day war games code-named Defenders of Velayat Skies.

According to a top Iranian military official, the domestically-designed S-200 air defense system has the same capabilities as the Russian-made S-300 system.

"We have developed the system by upgrading systems like S-200 and we have tested it successfully using all our potential and experience in the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps, the Army and the Defense Ministry," Brigadier General Mohammad Hassan Mansourian told Press TV.

During the fifth day of the maneuver, defense units managed to bring down dozens of mock enemy's drones by using short-range ballistic and artillery systems. They also locked on over 30 enemy warplanes and forced them to retreat. Conducting quick repair operations was another part of the drills' final stage.

Iran's military maneuver kicked off on Tuesday with the aim of testing the country's air defense capabilities.

The air maneuvers are being held near Iran's strategic sites to assess the performance of new air defense systems and enhance rapid response capabilities in countering potential aerial attacks.

Iranian military officials say the drills convey a message of peace and friendship to neighboring countries and a fierce warning against enemies.

As long as you are not fully industrialized then your military build up is flawed and useless, other than buying time and investing in an military industry that does not have prospectives in supporting the countries long term commitment to industrialization. Iran barely even has a space industry.

Iran's biggest asset is its human resources.Human resources are as important as material/technological resource in warfare, and in this regard Iran is clearly superior.Furthermore, the Iranian industries had gone a long way in developing the native science and renovation of organizations after Revolution.Do u think many advanced & hi-tech inventions like Jamaran destroyer,Hoot torpedo, solid-fuel Sejil missile,etc come up from flawed,useless and not fully industrialized organization?

Iran acquired several Soviet-made S-200 systems in the late 1980s. On the other hand, based on an $800 million contract signed in 2007, Russia agreed to provide Iran with at least five S-300 PMU-1 systems. But due to UN sanctions, Medvedev blocks sale in 2010.

Now, Iran is domestically upgraded version of that obsolete Soviet-made S-200 systems with same capabilities as the Russian S-300 and able to mass production of its own mere version.

Upgraded how?The system still uses a SARH radar system to detect,track, and illuminate targets. this means shooting one missile at a time, and making your ground crew a HARM missile magnet for the duration of the flight.

I am sorry but the S-200 is not a threat to modern air warfare. This was proven i Libya 20 years ago, i cannot see why they would perform better 20 years later against much more sophisticated aircrafts. iran needs s300 missiles to improve its air defence system. Tor-m1s were an excellent upgrade but S-300s will make the Air Defence more complete. For now Iran's air-defence system is outdated and vulnerable to enemy HARM missiles.

Those are not the missiles they showed in the parades .Those in the parades has phase array radar and are smaller then the s 200.

Iran has many missile programs.
