In 1969, as it became apparent that American rail passenger service was about to disappear from the face of the land (AMTRAK was by no means a sure thing then) I embarked on "one last" Dream Rail Adventure. Riding "last runs" was a hobby within the hobby in those days, but more on that at a later time. This trip took me to California where I met up with a buddy from the Ohio Railway Museum to enjoy the Roaring Camp and Big Trees and the delights of San Francisco. This movie features the San Francisco part of that adventure.

  • song is SOOOO played out and annoying -.- mute ftw

  • @Oxidized181 I don't think you get it. The song was chosen carfefully and specifically because it SOOO fits the time and the place. Maybe you had to have been there to appreciate it. But yes, if it annoys you feel free to mute it.

  • Wow, great footage! Thanks so much for this. We lived in SF during the 60's when I was a kid and I just relived a part of my childhood!

  • @ticket88 Thanks. Comments like these make it worthwhile.

  • 415 bitches

  • @FabulousGunz I'm wondering if you could translate that into old school English? Not sure if its a complikment or a put-down.

  • Wish I bought some property in SF in 1969. The highrise condos you see in the background at the end of the cable car line, the condos were selling for $40,000, now a Studio is $600,000.

  • Props to Rainbow Pixels for the 8mm film transfer. True frame independence.

  • @mrpicky510 I lived at 2nd and Clement for a decade. I love the inner Richmond, Ireland'32, the Plough and the Stars. Best part of the City.

  • great show. really captured 1960s SF. I was in grad school in those years and loved it. The music is great and essential to feeling what it was like.

  • This is the BEST You Tube video!!!! I remember when it was just a quarter to ride any MUNI transit. Lots of cool shots of early MUNI equipment on the streets......now, long gone. The Scot McKensie music is just perfect. There is nothing like San Francisco. Sweet.
