The first arriving on scene was one engine, one truck, and one rescue. The first crew of three firefighters went in the front door ( side A ) to search for an elderly woman who was supposed to be home. One of the three search firefighters stayed at the front door when eventually a hose line was brought to that location to protect the egress, this was the only thing done correctly.

The fire exposed itself on the C side of the structure, the IC did not do a 360 size up - when the firefighter took the windows the search crew was still in the building ( he vented on his own with no notification to IC or the interior crew ) The fire ball that erupted blew down the hallway where the interior crew was searching, they just managed to get back to the front door area and bail out. If the firefighter was not at the front door screaming to them they would have not made it out.

No hose line made it into the building for well into 15 minutes after arrival. There was three additional engines on scene withing 5 minutes of first crews arrival. There were 30 firefighters there within 10 minutes of dispatch. There was no size up - There was no action plan created - firefighters freelanced throughout the fire - if a size up was done a hose line should have been brought directly to the rear and suppress the fire through the rear door of side C - Driver of the first engine could not pump the engine - the firefighter who took over for him didn't know where to hook up the 5" supply line. This goes on and on and on.

  • Having read all of the various comments May I add that this video will present one of the best learning curves ever.Look and learn, it may save lives one day.

    Stay safe ll you guys.

  • Thanks laxdrummer43. It is a very interesting video. I think the key message is not to ventilate until charged hose lines are in place. The act of ventilation should be planned, coordinated and communicated.

Adding air to a ventilation controlled fire will result in a rapid increase in fire intensity. If you are aware of that, and plan for it by having hose lines in place, you can nail the fire before it spreads.

  • wow someone could have died first thing yoju do is a 360 just wow

  • Ok guys go easy on them, They made mistakes, But they also put it out which is what they were their to do. It looked like there was a flash over? maybe. But anyways its a good learning vid. Also always Have a hose charged and ready if ventalating. Anyone can make these mistakes.

  • with a viable victim and a search crew inside, ventilation would accually help tremendously in locating the victim. It would also reduce the IDLH area and make it more survivable. If the fire is attacked from the interior and blown outside the veturi would draw cool air from the house and out with the smoke. You see what happens when the process is reversed.

  • That got out of hand fast...a good 360 and better accountability couldve saved this house. Assuming these engines are 1250gpm and theres 750 gal of water or so, there couldve been a significant knock down early on from tank water alone.

  • great video! Another reminder to all of us in volley world that our fires are generally few and far between. dry running an attack plan on a regular basis can help that! Practice Practice Practice! Because when that next hot one comes in, it might be your department that looks like a big bag of ass all over youtube.

  • here in germany, we would not do such a ventilation, only two guy's would go in and start an inside attack with one hose, it would be enough

  • ok i have been i fire fighter for 1 year now and even i knwo they f**ked up hard ... dont brake the windos bc it make more oxegent to go in the house and it wel make it burn faster and burn the whole houes when it was a car fire in the besment ..........ye sthis started as a car fire in the besment

  • 3:53 :D haha

  • omfg took that long before they put water on it WTH did the fire fighters forget the hoses If they put water on it when they first got there they could of same the dam house WoW watch it burn amazing

  • why do you guys and the americans use natural ventilation before the fire is under control?
