I disassembled Hitachi SimpleDrive Mini 500GB portable USB HDD to swap it with my laptop 2.5" SATA drive and share my experience in this adventure. Pulling the drive apart is not difficult, though it's very likely that some holding clips or locks will be broken. The case will still be usable, however you may need to glue the parts together with an instant glue.

  • Thank you. I have the same 500GB mini drive you used in your tutorial. I had already pulled the case off and was just looking for someone that had disassembled it and put it in their laptop. You have confirmed my question and now for backing up my Windows and installing the 500GB HDD inside my lappy.
