Here's a random sampling of promos that aired on the Disney Channel throughout the 80's and early 90's.

1. Eyecatch "Rubber Stamp"
2. Promo for "American Originals", "The Wizard: Thomas Alva Edison"
3. Promo for "Animals Of Africa"
4. Dateline Walt Disney World (Detailing plans for new Resort Hotels and other park expansions. A lot of this stuff was never built)
5. Promo for "Avonlea"
6. Coming Up Next: "The Purple People Eater" (I totally remember watching this movie several times when it was on The Disney Channel)
7. DTV Intro "Trains"
8. DTV Intro "Goofy"
9. DTV Intro "The Headless Horseman"
10. DTV Intro "The Old Mill" (I like the funky disco music here)
11. DTV Intro "Dancing" (This is the one I always remember playing)
12. Promo for "Tuesday Night Specials" ("Yellowstone: The First National Park", "Disney Goes To The Academy Awards", "Videopolis Superstar Special" and "More About Silly Symphonies")
13. Disney Channel Feature Presentation
14. Eyecatch "TV Dinner"

  • That Boardwalk idea for Disney World was later used at Disney's California Adventure since I see the similarities in scenary and landscaping.

  • @scottof83 Perhaps in a very general way, but the boardwalk area at WDW is way classier and actually resembles old time Atlantic City. Paradise Pier at DCA tried to emulate California locales like the Santa Monica Pier and Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk.

  • I guess that Edison special pre-dates the discovery of his six-legged chair and electric hammer.

It does appear that all the hotels mentioned were built at some point, though the two new World Showcase lands never materialized. The Soviet Union land might have been rather awkward.

Sarah Polley would eventually have a falling out with Disney and left the series.

Why do I have a feeling that NPH doesn't give "The Purple People Eater" a very prominent position on his resume?

  • Holy shit!! Too bad all those things never materialized.

  • The DTV Headless Horseman was awesome.

  • Cool! Muppets at 3:19. :)

  • Ah I miss all of this! I often wonder if kids today will grow up and look back with fond memories of Zach and Cody and Wizards of Waverly Place? Or do you think we remember the shows we grew up with so well because of their quality?

  • disney channel used to be awesome, now its lame

  • The DTV "Trains" intro brings back memories!

  • Eisner blamed the pitiful performance of Disneyland Paris for the reason why many of the things intended for WDW never came to fruition.
