God resist the proud but gives grace to the humble. A person that doesn't understand the bad news will not understand the Good News. If Jesus tells us to repent but we don't believe we need to repent from anything then the preaching of the Cross is foolishness for those who are perishing.

In fact a perfect being could, out of his perfect understanding, not hold us to perfect standards because he would understand that they are impossible to meet. Anyone, with elementary reasoning skills, can see how illogical this line of reasoning is. After all, a few isolated actions, in a person's life, doesnt cause any sensible individual to label that person based on those actions.
