You don't know "DICK" about the history of fire service in the United States. You are COMPLETELY wrong in your facts. Anyone who has ever read a basic account of firefighting history will tell you that you are wrong, as many here already have.

You clearly have no understanding of the history of the fire service. Volunteer departments are still around to this day. I have nothing but respect for volunteers but who would you rather show up if your house was on fire? A tax payer funded department with professional personnel, well maintained & relatively new rigs, and with all the tools necessary for the job or a volunteer department who depend on people's generosity for all of the equipment?

The real misconception here is that people think that when the government does it, that it is free. Observe California. The average cost per fireman is nearly 100k a year, and that doesn't include future pension costs. California will be bankrupt in the next 3 years.

If you live in a county and the city pays for the fire department and you refuse to pay 75$ for the service....then you get what you pay for. Maybe they should go as far as making you sign something that says you will pay for the actual cost if your house catches fire if you don't want to pay the insurance. But it ISN'T SOMEONE ELSES RESPONSIBILITY TO PAY FOR YOUR FIRE DEPARTMENT!

FACT my fire dept is all volunteer PRIVATE NOT FOR PROFIT fire dept. We are paid by my township for fire protection thats how we but the big red trucks and equipment. please read my comment right below.

So I am a firefighter/fire instructor. My dept responds to all calls in the next township (They have a small fire dept and never respond). I am a taxpayer in my township and they don't pay us for a single thing.

So this guy says I should take my lumps and pay my taxes for their fire protection. How is that fair?? We keep going and putting out their fires leaving our township without the fire protection they have paid for. How is that fair??

No one party is out to get us, Their not that smart.
