KungFuCrazyMan, whilst I agree that Taiji is an internal martial art, like many other of today's martial arts, a sporting aspect has developed too. Largely to keep it alive in modern society. Wushu is the national sport of China and Taiji empty hand, Tui Shou and weapons forms are categories within it. There's actually a lot of footage of competition Taiji here on youtube! Please do have a look. It's a sport so physical facility/ability has become the emphasis over the 'martial' aspect.

By the way, I couldn't really call tai chi yolichu (bailong ball) a sport any more than I would call Tai Chi a sport. It is an internal martial art.
