I didn't know this was originally an American shoe called 'Match-Game' from the 1970s, makes you think most game-shows are ideas borrowed from each-other...

As soon as ANY British or American (and occasionally, those from other countries) game-show gets popular, the format gets bought (and occasionally, STOLEN) by the other. MANY of Britain's top gameshows were invented by America's Goodson-Todman.

But it's interesting how well they DO in other markets. Like, Portugal managed to squeeze ALL the excitement out of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire. And here, Wogan and the guests (particularly Kenny Everett) TOTALLY lampooned the whole genre!

More than anything this really makes me think of how sad it is that they're moving the 'Beeb out of TV Centre - imagine this lot hanging out in the bar afterwards, with all the other cast/crew from the other studios filming that day. So much great material was concieved not just in filming but in the surrounds of the television centre, just from people who wouldn't normally think of formal 'collaborations' hanging out and getting jolly. No more. Such a shame.

Imagine Kenny Everett tweeting on Twitter. Would have been excellent.

I had a look and it wasn't funny at all. If your Australian then I appreciate why you'd find it funny as I knew very few of the celebrities but the host looked like a backlash of the 60's with an overindulgent ego to match. I didnt find Grahams self promotion funny but I only watched a couple of episodes so maybe I am wrong. I do find the British version hilariously especially this episode with Kenny Everett.

Would have been ABSOLUTELY EPIC, actually, to put a finer point on it.

The original "Match Game" in America in the 60s wasn't quite as humourous as the one of the 70s. For the 70s version, Australia called their version "Blankety Blanks", and their set looked almost identical to the American one.

and in that same respect its amazing how a show like Blockbusters here lasted like 2 years with Bill Cullen from 80-82 in the US and yet the Bob Holness Era lasted significantly longer at 10 years!

It should also be noted that I have become more of a fan of the UK game/quiz shows just because I feel us Americans f***ed up the genre lately
