The Missoula Song by Jewel - Wilma Theater - June 22, 2010

When the world is getting you down
And your head starts spinning round and round
There's just one thing to do
Head to the Garden City where they'll welcome you

Do you do you wanna wanna wanna do you do you
Come on with me the city of Missoula
Where the moutain air will surely clear your mind
Do you do you wanna wanna wanna do you do you
Come with me to the city of Missoula
On a summer day the Clark Fork river is gonna cool you
In Missoula

If you like fly fishing this is your place
Head to charlie B's for a local ale
Or go to Brennan's to catch a wave
Or cheer for the Griz or the Lady Griz

Do you do you wanna wanna wanna do you do you
Come on down to the city of Missoula
Where the moutain air will clear your mind
Do you do you wanna wanna wanna do you do you
Come on down to the city of Missoula
The summer air and the Clark river is gonna cool you
In Missoula

If you like art, then go to the musem
If you like water, there's plenty jump on in
And if you like movies, there's the Wilma to see 'em in
And if you like hiking, just climb to the M

So do you do you wanna wanna wanna do you do you
Come on down to the city of Missoula
Where the moutain air will surely clear your mind
Do you do you wanna wanna wanna do you do you
Come on down to the city of Missoula
On a summer day the Clark Fork river is gonna cool you
Yeah, they will even school you in Missoula

I'll come back to Missoula

  • During her last tour in June, Jewel wrote a song for each city she was playing in. That song is pretty good, considering she wrote it a few hours before the show and performed it only once ;)

  • @deancogan28 is is the smell in Missoula that takes your breath away?

  • @filoIII LOL LOL yeah and being in hell is really cool too....LOL LOL

  • I'm from Mexico and studied in UM last semester and I freaking loved it. This song makes me wanna come back right now to Missoula. I want climb to the M once again =)

  • @filoIII You bet. The one thing mountains do effect is the amount of wind. In other parts of the state outside of the rockies the temperatures will seem lower due to wind chill.

  • @minivan442 I'm just relaying what Missoulians told me last week about the mountains making for milder winters than the eastern side of the state. Thanks for the info.

  • @filoIII Mountains do not block weather patterns at all its a very common misconception. The only thing mountains have an effect on in regards to the weather is air pressures. Average highs and lows in Jan & Feb are 15/30 degrees. The record low in Missoula during Jan is -36 degrees which I believe was in 1996 and in 2004 I remember it got down to -32 for a few days. This year (2011) we had sub zero temperatures for a few weeks getting as low as about -5. Along with lots of snow.

  • @minivan442 The way I understand it, the first snows are around Oct 31. What are the avg highs/lows in the dead of winter? Jan & Feb? I was under the impression the mountains block much of the extreme arctic air in western montana. I was just up there last week and enjoyed it.

  • @filoIII It depends on what you consider mild. Missoula's winter lasts about 7-8 months out of the year. This year we had a very long and cold winter with lots of precipitation which makes you really appreciate the Sun when it does appear. Best time of the year to be in Missoula is spring IMO.

  • @minivan442 I thought the winters were mild in Missoula.
