LTTE air raids thwarted -February 21st 2009 - part 4

Both LTTE air planes which entered the Colombo aero space to launch a brazen air raid had been shot out of the sky by anti-aircraft gunfire.
LTTE attempts to test their final strength was successfully thwarted. The terrorists deployed the tOo air planes to unleash a massive destruction. Hitherto, the LTTE had deployed air planes to Colombo with two air pilots manning them. But on this occasion there was only one pilot in each airplane. The two aircraft were monitored since they were airborne. The forces were alerted of their movement along the West coast. The Security Forces waited until the airplanes came into the range of the anti-aircraft guns to activate the air defence system. Accordingly one plane, disabled by anti-air gun fire, crashed into the Inland Revenue Department. It was completely shattered after crashing into the 12th floor of the building.

Minsiter Ranjith Siyambalapitiya said the future activities of the Department will be considered after the Government Analyst had conducted the inquiry. He was optimistic that the Department can resume its normal operations by Monday.
In the meantime the Security Sectors started removing the wreckage of the airplane which crashed into the 12th floor of the Department. The body parts of dead terrorist had been recovered.

In the meantime a group of the security hierarchy including Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapakse inspected the wreckage of the airplane. Mr. Rajapakse who arrived at the site gave instructions to the officials with regard to future actions.
