The USS Detroit was proclaimed as the Grand Champion of Fleet Week in New York City, New York and I was the happy Captain/Coach of the team.

I originally was inspired to work with fruit sauces (especially pure ones) for making sauces, by Doctor Dean Ornish, my friend. The Culinary Competition was held onboard the USS Intrepid at the Sea, Air and Space Museum -- Technology Hall.

On Memorial Day, NBC Studios invited the, "Fighting Tiger," for a - first ever in history - worldwide showing on television during the TODAY Show. The hosts were Ms. Anne Curri and Ms. Katie Couric. This allowed us to also talk about the many healthy changes we instituted in the US Navy in ceasing use of lard shortening, white flours, eggs, oils and all types of unhealthy ingredients.

Doctor Ornish has his new book out called, The Spectrum, which details my years of first meeting with him in 1994 at Camp David through the research studies held into 2007. His impact on the US Navy and Armed Forces led to a global purchasing change of 2.6 billion per annum in military buying. After being taught by him, in each country I was given the opportunity to establish contract purchases in the 100's of millions of dollars - I put the shift into place. I.E., I began making alternatives available and changing the way all six US Armed Forces cooked.

I have begun to do a few of these dishes at The Inn of the Patriots - home to the Presidential Culinary Mini-Museum, located in Grover, NC. Folks love my wife, Stormy, and I here and all of our good cooking!
