Males can sense that a female is mature. Initially, she was swarmed by all the males in the tank but this fellow eventually won territorial access rights. Over the period of a day or so she will attain normal, adult coloration.

This is Eublaberus posticus, the orange head roach. Everybody wants to call it prosticus with the "r", but it is posticus. I had it misspelled on my website for years!
