Residents in the neighborhood of Pilsen, Chicago, worked for over a decade to plant and maintain trees, grass, and flowers in what used to be a blighted empty lot. Now a developer is planning on turning it into a parking lot.
They are collecting signatures and asking people to contact Mayor Daley and Alderman Solís in support of the garden. For more info and/or to help out:

This is sad... you got my support! I don't live in the pilsen area anymore but more then willing to participate in demonstrations... I love and miss Pilsen! God Bless you in your struggle and please inform me on upcoming protest/gatherings! Been years since I have lived in Pilsen but visit it everday! To eat or visit Harrison Park with my dogs... I don't live too far now.... McKinley Park area... so I understand the changes... but the city with its outrages taxex shutting out people!

in the interest of our rapidly shrinking green spaces in chicago, for the love of people who care about them and the generations who enjoy these healthy community spaces, i am putting the word out to my friends to help raise awareness of this struggle- from one community gardener in humboldt park to another in pilsen! keep it up!
