I'd like to think that when Whalberg goes blank, the character is just reviewing his youth as it could've been and he's wondering in that moment "just how the fuck did I get here?" I know it was an accidental moment they were going to cut around because they were keeping the camera rolling no matter what, but to me it works perfectly.
