Ah, good question. The sunflowers grew GREAT! Notice my other 2 comments - I give a little detail as to when you can plant these seeds in Arizona. They are easy to grow and will be beautiful!

I've noticed my sunflowers grow shorter though, if I plant seeds in late June and force them to grow when it's uber, ridiculously HOT in July/ early August. The seeds seem to like being planted again, in mid-August though.
Believe it or not, I have a few Sunflowers still blooming in FULL SUN and it's January 2nd! Those seeds were planted in early November.

In Glendale you can start planting sunflower seeds pretty much anytime you want, beginning in the middle of March (as long as temps are warming up/with no more freezing nights). Plant seeds ALL THE WAY thru the middle of October.
