We hope you enjoy our latest video featuring Stephen Shultz in support of his new album : BOISMORTIER’S CONCERTOS FOR FIVE FLUTES.
Stephen Schultz takes on the daunting task of playing all five parts of these Concerti for Five Flutes from Boismortier - a feat never before attempted or accomplished! Hese six concerti for flute are a welcome addition to the 18th century repertoire as they represent authentic works written specifically for The flute, not “all purpose” Chamber Music for any combination of treble instruments.
Boismortier’s music demonstrates great facility, and one regrets that he wrote so few works on a large scale. It is difficult not to agree with La Borde, who said” “He will always be regarded by professionals as a good harmonist… anyone who will take the trouble to excavate this abandoned mine might find enough gold dust there to make up an ingot.” He was a French baroque composer of instrumental music, cantatas, opera ballets, and vocal music. Boismortier was purely a composer and one of the first to have no patrons; he made his living simply by writing new works of music.
